The seed of Empower Women NZ was planted in 2003 with a group of women in NZ who had been through the Woman Within® Training Weekend and wanted to offer other women in NZ opportunities to access various courses and activities related to Woman Within training, until such time as a Woman Within Training Weekend could be offered in NZ.
Woman Within International is a not-for-profit organization that offers educational opportunities for women to discover the power of who they are and encourages women to communicate this in their relationships, families, workplaces and communities. The Woman Within Training Weekend was created by Char Tosi in Wisconsin, USA in 1987. There are now a number of regions and Outreach Communities around the world offering Woman Within training in USA, Canada, Europe, South Africa and Australia.
In 2007 a Focus Group was established by a group of keen and committed women, with the purpose of acting as a steering committee for the community. The name Empower Women New Zealand (EWNZ) was chosen along with a Mission Statement: to encourage, challenge, nurture and empower women to reclaim themselves and celebrate who they really are.
The aim of this Focus Group is to grow the community by offering Empowerment Circle Weekend Intensives and helping establish and introduce interested women to E- Circles, and continue to work towards bringing the Woman Within Training Weekend to NZ.
The Focus Group is also committed to working alongside the ManKind Project in NZ – the “brother” organisation affiliated with Woman Within International.
Empower Women NZ is not based on colour, class, sexual orientation, faith, age, ability, ethnicity or nationality.
We would like to particularly honour Bea Phillips who initiated our work and community of women in NZ and played an integral part in the ongoing establishment of Empower Women NZ.
